My Mom was a wonderful artist. She painted literally hundreds of landscapes, commissioned portraits and stills. She worked in oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal and graphite. Most of her artworks were sold rather quickly, but I have a few of her large framed paintings and many of her drawings in sketchbooks. I treasure them.

I couldn't find this quote last night when I finished the design, or I would have put it in the first comment... Mom kept a notebook in which she wrote copied quotes that were meaningful to her. This is from that notebook:

* ~ * ~ * ~ * Flying Free * ~ * ~ * ~ *

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush...

of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

Rejoice! Now my released soul sings.
I have the wind beneath my wings.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

I love you, Mom! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Beautiful tribute Del, yet heart-wrenching too.

I also lost my Mom, back in '92 due to heart and Parkinson's Disease. Her passing was in some ways a relief, as she fought, failed and suffered for so long.

Once a Mom is gone, holidays, birthdays and family events are never the same...

Wishing you solace and peace.

Such a beautiful sentiment and a sweet design for a lovely lady!

So sorry to hear about your loss! My Mom passed about two years ago, and like you, the holidays are just not the same!

Hugs to you :|

It is a wonderful thing to have a mother who has brought joy into to your life and who loves you! Your picture brought tears to my eyes because my Mom is now 84 years old and has health issues... She will be in transition within a few years. :
I am putting your picture into my favorites so that I may meditate on your poem after she goes : Thank you!
Although death may be painful for us who are left behind, I feel that it is most likely a very beautiful experience for the departed, much like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly!
I have a good idea that it will not be the final farewell! :)

What a beautiful tribute to your mom. My mom who was also my best friend passed away seven years ago after a short but brutal fight with cancer. Holidays are never the same without her but I know that all our loved ones who have passed are with us still all the time and looking down at all we do. hugs.

A Mother's Tribute

If you were here I would say thank-you,
for teaching me to find the courage and strength
to dance to my own brand of music.

If you were here I would say thank-you,
for showing me that each and everyone of us are a miracle of God
each destined to leave our own unique footprints in this journey called life.

If you were here I would say thank-you,
for encouraging me to see the invisible in order to do the impossible

If you were here I would say thank-you,
for always loving me unconditionally,
even when I least deserved it.

If you were here I would say thank-you,
for showing me daily the value of family and friendship, loyalty and love

If you were here I would say thank-you,
for believing in me when I no longer believed in myself

If you were here I would say thank-you,
for all the examples of how to be a mother, body and soul.

If you were here I would say thank-you
for all the sacrifices, heartache, loneliness, tears, and frustrations
that you so selflessly endured since the day I was born,
the day you decided to forever have your heart leave your body

Since you are no longer here,
I will close my eyes and say thank-you in my prayers,
and hope that you know you were all I have ever wanted to be.

My Mom was a wonderful woman who's children came first in her life. Everyone loved her.
Sounds like your Mom was the same.

I'll never foreget you, Mom. Never foreget me.

Del, In gazing through your beautiful gallery, this instantly touched my heart. As I read through the comments I also found myself in tears. My Dad passed away many years ago so I can understand the loss of a parent so loved. My Mom is now up in years and I do treasure each moment with her. Although late in coming, please know you are in my prayers as is your Mom - I know she is smiling so proudly at you.
